We continue to receive a number of offers for contributions to the welfare of the armed forces and the families of our gallant soldiers who have laid down their lives in the service of the National recently in Kargil Operations in India. Taking these into account, the Government of India has decided that those who wish to make contributions may do so by cheque in dollars or rupees drawn in favour of "National Defence Fund".
