SUUR - PHILIA concert

 

On the occasion of the 70th anniversary of India's Independence the Consulate General of India, New York & Tagore Society of New York presented a concert of songs 'Suur-Philia' on Friday, August 18, 2017 in the Consulate ballroom. The event was well attended by prominent members of the Indian Diapora and of the cultural community. 

The evening started with a short documentary 'The Story of Gitanjali: Song Offerings' which highlights the fascinating story of Rabindranath Tagore and speaks of the dramatic circumstances that caused Gitanjali to make history. This was followed by a musical concert presented by RHYTHM-SPEC. Under the direction & conceptualization of Dr. Arindam Chakraborty, vocalists Sangrami Lahiri, Madhurima Choudhury, Malini Mazumdar, Jayashree Sen-Mazumdar, piano by Devraj Duttagupta and narration by Arundhati Sanyal, Rupnanda Mitra Chakravarty, the presentation included combination of Indian Raaga and melodious songs of Rabindranath Tagore and others along with semi-classical Thumri, Bhajan, Folk, Puratani , Ghazal, movie oldies following the traditional Baithaki style.
