ATTESTATION OF WILL

There is no need to take an appointment. Applicants can visit the Embassy/Consulate on any working day between 09.15 and 11.45 am. The service will be on first come first serve basis. Before, approaching the Consular Office to seek required service, applicant must be ready with complete application form and other required documents, as mentioned in the Embassy website. This is important to render better and quick service to the applicants. Following is the Consular jurisdiction of the Consulate: Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and Vermont

The Consulate reserves the right to reject attestation of documents, the contents of which are objectionable or contrary to the Rules.

Note: Consular Services are not provided to those applicants having Asylee or Refugee visa status.

The applicant drawing up the Will is required to come to the Consulate in person. The applicant would be interviewed by the Consular Officer before attestation of the Will. There is no relaxation to this rule.

In case of US nationals, the Embassy/Consulate will attest the Will only after it has been apostilled by the State Department/Authorities. Document can be Apostilled at the Office of the Secretary of State where the applicant resides.

How to Apply:

1.

Download the FORM F  and fill it up carefully. Each applicant is required to fill up separate FORM F and affix his/her photograph on the same.

2.

Will document (which is to be attested) should be presented in original. Will should be signed and witnessed by two individuals (with their names and addresses clearly mentioned). If the witnesses are not coming in person it should be DULY NOTARISED.

3.

Applicant’s current valid passport in original and its photocopy. Those having Indian passport may provide original and photocopies of the first page, last page and the visa page of the passport.

4.

Original and photocopy of the document showing valid US visa status.

5.

Original and photocopy of any of the following documents as proof of residence: US Driving License, Utility Bill, Lease Agreement, State Identity Card, Mortgage Deed, and State Identification Card.  

6.

Carry all original supporting documents for presentation to the Consular Officer. Photocopies of these documents may be attached with the application.  Ensure that photocopies of these documents are legible.

7.

Fee:  A non-refundable fee of US$ 20 (twenty) per attestation. Each applicant for Miscellaneous Services has to give a separate money order/cashier’s check/cash  of US$2 (two) drawn in favour of Consulate towards Indian Community Welfare Fee (ICWF).  The fee may be paid only in cash if applying in person.

8.

Processing Time: Application will be processed and handed over to applicant on the same day.
